ULCU’S INAUGURAL CHILI THROWDOWN! RAISES MONEY FOR WORKING FAMILIES
October 16, 2012 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – The inaugural United Labor Credit Union (ULCU) Chili THROWDOWN! was held Saturday, October 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., in Gladden Hall of the Visions Building, in Kansas City, Mo. Seventeen teams registered to compete in three categories: Traditional, Most Original and Eat at Your Own Risk. Funds collected from entry fees, People’s Choice judging and the silent auction exceeded $1,200, and will benefit Working Families’ Friend and its mission “to gather community resources in order to enable employed and recently unemployed individuals to sustain and maintain quality of life through assistance, training, advocacy and financial support.”
“This event brought out a lot of great chefs and some amazing chili which made the job of choosing very difficult for our judges!” said Tim Vogler, ULCU President. “We can’t wait to raise more money for Working Families’ Friend during next year’s event.” The winners by category were:
Traditional: Mike and Shelly Pratt, (Local 20) “Rootin’ Tootin’ Cowboy Chili”
Most original: Erin Williams, (ULCU) Panang Curry Turkey Chili
Eat at your own risk: Nick Bruscato, (Local 27) Spicy Slow-Smoked Mesquite Chili
